I live in Medford, Oregon and planned an outing with a friend and my 15 month old daughter, for the day  in the Red Buttes Wilderness, which is 60 miles from our house. This area is not new to me as I often travel to the Applegate, Del Norte and Humbold areas for our outdoor activities. On this particular day, June 3, 2009, we were planning on spending a good portion of the day by the Applegate River, swimming and fishing. I had bought a new fishing rod I was hoping to try out that day. We arrrived around 10:30 am parking near upper Applegate Rd, we’d been driving for an hour so we got out and walked around some. I walked up the trail looking for a good spot for the day, while my friend stayed with my daughter by the water. This area is very beautiful in that there is a thick forest, of readwoods and oak trees, on ether side of the trail; very dense brush growing, with ferns.

As I tell this story I am overcome with emotion, what I am about to tell you is an experience as I perceived it. I can feel the tears building up in my eyes and the hair on the back of my neck begin to stand up as I am typing this…

I was walking up the path and not 50 yards ahead of me, maybe closer, I heard some sort of noise. I stopped and heard it again some “thumping”; I watched someting duck behind some brush next to a boulder on the hill. It stopped me dead in my tracks as I’ve heard stories of bears and mountain lions in the area. I tried to explain off what I actually saw; if it was a bear it would of ran off in the woods before I could even see it. If it was a mountain lion I wouldn’t of been alive at that moment. A bear and mountain lion don’t walk on their hind legs… it couldn’t be a man, could it? I looked for around a minute when the realization of what I saw began to sink in; a reddish brown figure covered in fur 6-7 foot tall looking down on me before it ducked down in the brush.

Bigfoot Running in Woods

Bigfoot Running in Woods

Then, I saw movement and I became very aware that this very large something was yet again looking down at me. I was not alone. It’s face and back was clearly visibile in the sunlight, its shoulder like those of a linebacker. The face was flat with long matted hair. The ears were hairless and moderately flat against the head. I could see its eyes starring as though right through me. I was cripped with fear. I am not a chicken or coward I am a strong man but what I was seeing defied what I know of. As a kid I was raised around the woods of Klamath Falls, Oregon this was not one of the type of animals that are suppose to be in the woods.

I quickly realized I was alone and this creature, this bigfoot was not afraid of my presence. I started to get the feeling that I was invading this creatures space, that it didn’t want me there. The fear or adrenaline kicked in and I found my self running for dear life down the hill. I was running so fast that I ran into my car. I told my friend who had my daughter to “get in the car now”. I burned rubber, made it out of the woods and I didn’t stop the car until I was home 60 miles down the road.

You are now warned, the bigfoot in this area are highly territorial and maybe even aggressive. If you chose to visit this area you are risking your life in encountering one of these bigfoot type ape creatures.
This is real I’m telling the truth, I am still freaked out about what I saw. I no longer feel safe in my own home since there are woods behind my house.

Please leave a comment if you know what I saw…
