Mongolian Death Worms Residents of Mongolia’s Gobi Desert

Monsters of Mongolia’s Gobi Desert

Those who are familiar with legendary beasts such as the Chupacabra and the Yeti are sure to have knowledge of the Mongolian Death Worm. In Mongolia, sightings of these creatures are common, and tales of their uncanny abilities are a mainstay of local culture. Simply mentioning the name of this fearsome monster is said by Mongolians to bring bad luck.

Individuals have claimed that the Mongolian Death Worm has the ability to spray a yellowish acid that is extremely corrosive and even fatal. Other reports have stated that the Death Worm has the ability to kill instantly at a distance by means of some sort of electrical bolt. It is unclear whether witnesses believe that these electrical powers are due to possible psychic abilities held by the worm or whether the phenomenon is physiological, such as the shock emitted by an electric eel. Locals have also claimed that touching any part of the worm can bring instantaneous death, though it is unclear whether this would arise from the worm’s electrical properties or from the emission of a poisonous substance on its skin.

mongolian death wormIn terms of appearance, the Mongolian Death Worm is supposedly two to four feet long, bright red in color, and quite rotund. Individuals have reported that the worms seem to be attracted to the color yellow. In Mongolian, one of its names is ‘Allghoi Khorkhoi,’ which roughly translates to ‘intestine worm,’ as Mongolians believe the worm resembles a cow’s intestine. As with most other worms, it is difficult to discern which end is the head and which end is the tail. On certain occasions, Mongolian tribesmen have described the Mongolian Death Worm as having sets of spikes that seem to emerge from both the tail and the head. Other than these spikes, the worm has no mouth, eyes or nose that are visible. Witnesses have described that the worm moves in an odd fashion, squirming sideways and rolling across the ground instead of using a slithering motion that is common to other worms and most snakes.

According to residents of Mongolia’s Gobi Desert, which is home to the fabled creature, the Mongolian Death Worm is active almost exclusively in the summer months of June and July. Apparently, the worm prefers to be active only during the warmest parts of the year, and will often emerge from the ground shortly after it has rained. The worm will typically spend the rest of the year burrowed underground, and locals believe that the worms usually create their burrows in the vicinity of plant life.

Despite numerous reports of sightings over the years, no actual evidence of the Mongolian Death Worm has ever been found. Since the fall of Mongolia’s Communist regime in the 1990s several expeditions have set out into the Gobi Desert to confirm the existence of the worm, but with no success. There are, however, several planned expeditions to the Southern area of the Gobi Desert, where most sighting reports originate.

Horicon Hank the New Creature

The Horicon Marsh, WI

Swamp LightsBars are humming with stories of unidentified lights in the marsh.  Trappers and fisherman are hurrying back to the docks before dark  for something new is Lurking in the Swamps of Horicon, WI.  It searches for blood perhaps.

Others have begun to say they are lights of  local law enforcement trying to locate a creature spotted by a couple of residents.  The county sheriff has done his best at keeping the reports quite but reports are more frequent requiring a visit to investigate  the latest creature sighting.

Lurking in the Swamp is Horicon Hank

Locals call “The Creature“,  “Horicon Hank” for now, cause we don’t know if it is a he/she/it and also don’t even have evidence he/she/it exists… except for the old lady (who could be crazy) and the 3 hunters (who could have been drinking for all I know).

Anyway, very creepy, as these people aren’t given to rumor-mongering.

The swamp is home to creepies and crawlies small rodents.  These inhabitants have been dwendling in numbers, perhaps a small snack for Hank.

Lights can be seen moving in the swamp, sometimes the lights are a bright yellow like that of a large firefly.  At other times the lights change in midstream into a glowing less bright red.

An unconfirmed account of several teenage boys traveled into the swamp, they thought it might be fun to “see the lights”.  They did spot a mysterious light and were hesitant but decided to chase after the lights in one of the boys father’s air boat.  They gained ground quickly and were within a few blocks of the lights when the lights just a big flash then flashed off leaving spots in the boys eyes.  They heard big splashes and something bumped the boat.   Fumbling with the flashlights to get a better view… it was gone.

Returning home shaken up from the events that transpired they now tell the tale of “Horicon Hank”.  Although in their account the monster held on to the side of the boat and they shook it off going full throttle.  The lights, they speak of the lights so bright almost blinding.  Like a camera flash in one’s eyes.  This might account to why all they saw was the light itself.  The monster shrouded by the bright light it emits.

Needless to say most people no longer venture into the swamp at night as the swamp now belongs to Hank.

Say what you about will about swamp monsters but for me “I still believe”.

Mokele-Mbembe the One Who Stops the Flow of the Rivers

mokole-mbembede

mokole-mbembede

Congo River Monster

The meaning of the word Mokele-mbembe in the Lingala language is “one who stops the flow of the rivers”. Mokele-mbembe is the name given to a large cryptid residing in water of the Congo River basin. The mention of this river monster is found in legends and folklore. In some places it is mentioned as a living creature while in some it is just a spirit. This creature is slightly similar to the Loch Ness Monster from the western culture. Many people have tried to find out the whereabouts of the Mokele-mbembe by taking several trips but no one has got success in it. There are several books and television documentaries which show the efforts done by people to find out this creature. Several frictions related books have mention of Mokele-mbembe.

The first mention of Mokele-mbembe is found in a book written by French priest Abbe Lievain Bonaventure Proyart in 1776. In this book the natural history of the Congo Basin of Africa is given in details. The Mokele-mbembe creature is mentioned as something that cannot be seen but which is monstrous. It is also said in this book that the marks of this creature’s claws noted on the ground were about three feet in circumference.

Mokele-mbembe is believed to be brownish-gray in color with smooth skin. It is said to be equal to the size of an elephant or hippopotamus. It is also said to have just one long tooth and a very stretchy neck. It is also said that this creature was a vegetarian and used to climb shores even at daytime in search of food. The description of this creature is mentioned differently by different writers. People from Boha village don’t think this creature as a living body but they treat it like a spirit.

Another biologist named Roy Mackal, who tried to find the whereabouts of this creature twice, has mentioned in his writings that Mokele-mebmbe is a creature like reptile. According to him this creature looks similar to that of iguana and the monitor lizards. In the year 2001, there was a documentary on Congo, which was shown by BBC and Discovery channel, in which the interviews of tribe people were shown. These tribe people called a photograph of rhinoceros as Mokele-mbembe. But there is no species of African rhinoceros that are found in Congo basin. It can be therefore said, mokele-mbembe is a mixture of folk stories and mythology when the rhinoceroses where found in this area.

There have been several attempts made by people to find this creature in Africa. Cryptozoologists have seen a dinosaur like creature in this area which was not indentified before. After that many trips were made to this area to find these creatures but nothing concrete came out of it. Many said that they had close encounter with this creature but none among them had any concrete thing to prove. Willy Ley, who is a science writer and cryptozoologist says “that there is a large and dangerous animal hiding in the shallow waters and rivers of Central Africa”. But from this sentence there is no real conclusion that can be taken against the existence of Mokele-mbembe.
